Majority Of App Store Downloads Are Free Apps, Games
July 18, 2008
Washington (dbTechno) - The mobile ad group Medialets has managed to track the progress to this point of the Apple iTunes’ App Store, and has found that the majority of downloads over the service are of free apps.
Apple pulled the download counts shortly after the launch of the App Store, but following that announced that 10 million apps were downloaded over the launch weekend.
According to the ad group, out of the top ten apps by users on the App Store, only one was actually paid.
That was Super Monkey Ball. Others high up on the list were AIM, Facebook, and Remote.
Apple has also seen a drop in what people are willing to pay on the App Store.
Since launch, the average cost a consumer will pay has dropped from $6.03 down to $5.47.
The best paid apps to this point appear to be games.
