Cell Phones Replace Traditional Boarding Pass

Houston (dbTechno) - Houston has been chosen as the first location to test out a new system which will do away with the standard paper boarding pass, putting forth a brand new cell phone boarding pass.

Continental Airlines in Houston, Texas will be the first to test out these new cell phone boarding passes. The check-in-procedure will work on any cell phone or PDA. The Transportation Security Administration at George Bush International Airport has approved the new electronic boarding passes.

The testing program will run for three-months and will use technology which has bar codes encrypted on the screens of mobile devices.

Senior Vice President of Continental Mark Bergsrud stated “We have been in favor of this for a long time and had fairly consistent dialogue with TSA on our desire to do this. We were ready technically and we are pretty nimble with our ability to develop software and test it.”

The new program is going to allow passengers to receive their boarding passes electronically. They can present the bar codes on the screen of the mobile device which will then be scanned by a TSA security officer at the checkpoint.

No more paper boarding passes! If successful, the program will expand in three months.
