Apple, China Mobile Ready To Talk iPhone Yet Again
March 3, 2008
Beijing (dbTechno) - According to reports, Apple and China Mobile are very close to resuming talks about bringing the highly-popular iPhone to China, and to China Mobile customers.
China Mobile has 350 million subscribers, a customer-base which Apple could surely use to help them hit their goal of selling 10 million iPhones before the end of 2008.
China Mobile CEO Wang Jianzhou stated that there has yet to be any official talks between Apple and China Mobile.
The last time the two companies talked about a possible move to bring the iPhone to China was in January, but they were called off with no real progress.
The iPhone is clearly a popular item in China as it has been reported that there are currently around 400,000 unlocked iPhones in China.
The trouble Apple appears to be having in China, is getting China Mobile and other carriers to go along with their revenue sharing set-up.
The other big issue is pricing in China, as the price of the iPhone seems a bit out of reach to attract the majority of Chinese consumers.
Wang of China Mobile stated “As long as our customers want this kind of product,w e will keep all options open.”
So it is clear that consumers in China want the iPhone, the question is, will China Mobile and Apple be able to strike a deal?
