Nokia Adds WiMax Support For N810 Internet Tablet

Boston (dbTechno) - Nokia announced at the CTIA Wireless 2008 trade show that they will be adding built-in support for WiMax in their Internet Tablets. The first will be the new Nokia N810 Internet Tablet WiMax Edition.

The new Nokia N810 is said to be very similar to the past release of the hardware. The only addition beyond the new color scheme is the added antenna on the back.

Nokia stated that the new N810 with WiMax will also feature some firmware updates.

For those who do not know, the biggest difference between WiFi and WiMax is that WiMax allows for a coverage radius of 2 to 3 miles.

This allows major cities to be covered in broadband with a small number of actual access points.

The N810 Internet Tablet WiMax Edition will be powered by Linux, and will feature a 4.13 inch screen at 800×480 resolution. It also has built-in maps and satellite navigation.

A full-featured Web browser is included along with a QWERTY keyboard that slides out. On top of WiMax, it supports WiFi and Bluetooth.

In terms of battery life, it offers 45 hours of music playback, as well as 2GB of internal memory, with an additional 8GB available through a memory card.

There is no word yet on who will be carrying the device, but it is expected this summer in the U.S.
