Some are calling it the biggest threat yet to the Apple iPhone. The Nokia Tube will be the first touch-screen device to work on the most recent Symbian operating system, the S60.

Nokia is certainly getting ready to bring this new device to the public, as it seems like it may be their biggest product to date.

Nokia is no secret to touch-based devices as they have released quite in their time, including the recent N810 Internet Tablet.

Nokia has revealed some information about the Tube, stating it will support Java as well as the uploading of photos.

Forum Nokia Vice President Tom Libretto spoke at the Evans Data Developer Relations Conference on Tuesday in Redmond City, California. He compared the Apple iPhone sales to the sales of all Nokia phones around the world in 2007, touting Nokia’s 60 million multi-media devices sold compared to Apple’s 4 million iPhones.

We will have to await new information about the Nokia Tube, with its expected release in the second half of 2008.

I currently own the Nokia N95, my wife owns the iPhone, and my oldest son owns the Voyager. We are quite the “tech” family here.

Even though the N95 is superior to the iPhone in more than 100 way, yes the iPhone is better in some ways, I will not be buying another Nokia product again.

I paid $800.00US for my N95. One of the features I depend on is the tracking feature of the GPS. You had to pay extra to get turn by turn voice commands, but the N95 provided readable navigation directions and the tracking feature as part of it’s baseline installation of applications. The tracking feature would show your current location on a map as an X and a dark blue line on the map as you path. This was an excellent way to use the phone while driving. I simple glance at the phone told you if you were driving the wrong direction.

Nokia has since updated their firmware and “REMOVED” this feature I use and depend on. The current OS of the N95 has its share of bugs and the new firmware update fixes many of these known problems. Unfortunately, I have to continue using this buggy, non-responsive, temperamental OS because I cannot upgrade the firmware or I will lose the tracking feature.

I paid for the tracking feature and have never heard of a company “REMOVING” a feature, that you paid for when you purchased you product, with a firmware update. Nokia’s position stinks of greed, theft, dishonesty, and just plain disrespect for their high-end customers.

Nokia, I don’t care how good the Tube is. You cannot be trusted to change what customers have purchased by ripping out previously paid for features later. I will never buy a Nokia product as long as I live. The owners of Nokia should be charged with theft in every country on earth.
