Apple To Add Immersion’s Haptic Feedback To iPhone
April 27, 2008
New York (dbTechno) - According to reports, Apple is in talks with Immersion to add haptic feedback to future touchscreen devices. This means that the iPhone touchscreen may give off the sensation of actual button pushes through concentrated vibrations.
One of the biggest complaints with the iPhone is the last of physical buttons and keyboards. The use of vibration feedback could use the touchscreen of the iPhone, and with the feedback, simulate the feeling of button pushes.
Reports state that Apple has already me with Immersion on two separate occaions about possibly adding vibration feedback to the iPhone.
The use of haptic feedback would add the sense of physical button presses on the touchscreen.
The feedback would send short and concentrated vibrations through specific locations of the iPhone. This would go along with button pushes.
This gives the user the feeling that they are pushing buttons, when in reality, they are only using the touchscreen.
This is already being used in the upcoming iPhone rival, the Samsung Instinct.
Neither Apple nor Immersion have confirmed the talks even took place
