New Law Bans Cell Phones While Driving In California

Sacramento (dbTechno) - Starting on Tuesday, if you are cause using a cell phone while driving in the state of California, you will likely be facing a fine. This comes as a new law is set to go into effect to ban the use of handheld cell phones while driving.

Starting on Tuesday when the law goes into effect, police officers will be able to pull over drivers who violate the law by driving and talking on their cell phone.

Once the law goes into effect on Tuesday, there is no grace period, as police officers can begin to issue tickets to drivers immediately.

The base fine for a first offense will result in a $20 ticket. From there, it will move up to $50 per offense.

The idea behind the new law is to try and reduce the number of car collisions which result in injury or death.

Adults who want to get around this law must use a hands-free device in their car if they want to carry out a conversation.

For people under the age of 18, they are banned from using either a hands-free device, or handheld device.
