EU Cracking Down On Sites Selling Mobile Ringtones
July 18, 2008
London (dbTechno) - The EU has announced that they are cracking down on sites selling mobile phone ringtones.
The EU looked at over 500 site selling ringtones across all of the 27 member states in the European Union.
What they found was that over 80% of them needed further investigation, as they are suspected of violating EU consumer rules.
The biggest problem had to do with pricing, as the majority of these web sites selling ringtones or wallpapers for mobile phones had unclear pricing information.
Some required people to sign up for a contract or subscription without the customer ever knowing it.
Consumers have sent complaints to the EU, as they have been very unhappy with several of these sites.
The most easily exploited are teenagers and children, as the sites target them and get them into contracts they cant escape easily.
466 of the 558 websites investigated will need further looking into.
