UK Bans Apple iPhone Ad, Says It Is Misleading
August 27, 2008
Washington (dbTechno) - Britain’s Advertising Standards Authority has come out and stated that they have decided to ban an Apple iPhone advertisement in the UK, stating it is misleading.
Apple has been ordered to stop airing the advertisement in the UK, as they deemed that the content in the commercial was going to make consumers believe things that are just not true.
The iPhone has been a major success around the world, but there is no doubt that it does have its fair share of problems.
The Apple ad, which has been airing on television in the UK, shows the iPhone being used to display stock prices, the weather, a map for directions, and more.
The voiceover of the commercial for the iPhone states “You never know which part of the Internet you’ll need … which is why all the parts of the Internet are on the iPhone.
The issues for consumers though come in the fact that it does not support the entire Internet, as Java and other formats cannot be viewed on the device.
According to the BBC, the group concluded that the ad is misleading.
