Release Date: May 20, 2008
MSRP: $39.99

WWE Wrestlemania XXIV hailed from the Citrus Bowl in Florida this past year, featuring an absolutely stacked card from top-to-bottom. As they do every year, WWE has gone and released the biggest PPV of the year on DVD, this year in the form of a 3-disc set that is absolutely stacked with over 9-hours of content. Needless to say, this is a must-buy for any wrestling fan!

The PPV itself ran for 4-hours and featured some tremendous matches. The personal highlight of the PPV for me was the Ric Flair vs. Shawn Michaels match, for obvious reasons as it was the last match for “Nature Boy” Ric Flair.

Beyond that though there were some other tremendous matches as well, with the Money in the Bank Ladder Match, Big Show vs. Floyd “Money” Mayweather, and much more. Everyone put on their best show, with the full card listed below. WWE once again hit a home-run with Wrestlemania, as even matches which you not think would have been good in the ring, such as Show vs. Mayweather, still managed to come off as very exciting and enthralling.

Card for WWE Wrestlemania XXIV

Belfast Brawl: Finlay vs. JBL

Money in the Bank Ladder Match: Chris Jericho vs. Shelton Benjamin vs. John Morrison vs. Carlito vs. CM Punk vs. MVP vs. Mr. Kennedy

Battle for Brand Supremacy: Batista vs. Umaga

ECW Championship Match: Chavo Guerrero vs. Kane

Career Threatening Match: Ric Flair vs. Shawn Michaels

Playboy Bunnymania Lumberjack Match: Maria and Ashley vs. Beth Phoenix and Melina

Triple Threat Match – WWE Championship: Randy Orton vs. Triple H vs. John Cena

Big Show vs. Floyd “Money” Mayweather

World Heavyweight Championship Match: Edge vs. Undertaker

The video and audio quality for this DVD release is absolutely top notch as it is presented in 16:9 widescreen, as well as Dolby Digital 5.1 surround. The video clarity is great as the colors from the fireworks, lighting, etc. are extremely crisp and clear, no grain here at all.

The same can be said about the audio which comes across extremely clear. The commentary is kept in the front center channel with the crowd and other sites and sounds immersing you in the action at all times. A great job by WWE Home Video on the audio/visual aspect of the release.

They don’t stop with the PPV alone though, as there are some nice extras. The first notable extra is the pre-Wrestlemania 24-man battle royal. The winner ended up being Kane, who got the right to wrestle for the ECW belt on the PPV.

The other extra is the real highlight of the release, and is just as entertaining as the whole PPV. It is the complete WWE Hall of Fame 2008 ceremony. When WWE showcased the ceremony on TV, it was only an hour long and featured just a few of the acceptance speeches, with the big one being Ric Flair which was chopped down to under 15-minutes.

The great thing with this feature though is that you get the entire ceremony, including the full Ric Flair acceptance speech. Flair goes through some hilarious stories, moments, etc. from his career which is great to hear from any fan perspective.

You also see others celebrated during the ceremony such as Eddie Graham, Gordon Solie, the Brisco Brothers, Rocky Johnson, and others. Special appearances such as The Rock, John Cena, and others is great to see
.
From a fan’s perspective, this is an absolute must-own on DVD, even if just to hear the entire acceptance speech of Ric Flair into the hall of fame. The PPV itself, along with the audio and video quality is top notch. Spread across 3-discs with over 9-hours of content, WWE Wrestlemania XXIV is a fantastic release on DVD.

Show: 9.0 A great PPV with some tremendously entertaining wrestling matches.

Video: 9.0 WWE did a good job with the video transfer, looks great in 16:9.

Audio: 8.8
The audio quality is top-notch, good use of the surround channels.

Special Features: 9.5
The full acceptance speech of Ric Flair is simply an incredible thing to see for any wrestling fan, and the fact that the entire ceremony is included in this set makes it well worth the money.

Final Score: 9.5
