Transformers is one of those franchises which spans across generations. There are adults now who loved watching Transformers and GI Joe, and there are the new generation of Transformers fans, introduced by the most recent movie and such.

The older generation though will most likely remember the Transformers cartoons and GI Joe, and this DVD release goes back to that with Transformers Animated – Transform and Roll Out.

The new animated series is very different from the show that I personally remember watching as a kid.

This animated series has a much more cartoon-ish feel to it than the original did from so many years ago. This was my first time checking out this animated series, but I feel it did a good job of mixing he new movie and the original cartoon into something that old and new fans can enjoy.

The series takes place in the future with the likes of Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, and Prowl, and Bulkhead. Another character you may remember from the war with the Decepticons is Ratchet.

The team quickly discovers a mystery object in the rock, which ends up being the powerful object called Allspark. The device gives power to all robots. This is obviously something of interest by the villains, led by Megatron.

The DVD does a great job of presenting the new animated series in an entertaining light, and I truly enjoyed it.

In terms of video quality, the DVD looks very sharp with some nice colors. The audio is also very respectable and comes across clean in Dolby Digital.

The video is presented in full screen format.

For the extras, there really is not too much a short featuring Optimus talking to kids in school. The short lasts for just over 2 minutes and has Optimus transforming into anything they say. Entertaining, but a little foolish as well.

Overall, if you are an old or new Transformers fan, this is work checking out for sure. The show is very fun and entertaining, and will do no harm at all. Once you’re done watching this DVD, you will surely feel like you got your money’s worth.

Content: 8.0 The cartoon is well done and does a good job to please old and new Transformers fans.

Video: 7.5 Pretty much what you would expect, presented in full screen, nice and colorful.

Audio: 7.5 A nice and clean audio mix presents the story well here.

Extras: 5.0 The short little extras do not do much really to add to the experience.

Final Score: 7.0
