Ric Flair has been a part of wrestling since before I even started watching wrestling. He is a legend in and out of the ring, and just recently retired from being an active wrestler after a huge match at WrestleMania this past year. To top off the great year of Flair, the WWE has released the Nature Boy Ric Flair – The Definitive Collection on DVD for wrestling fans to eat up.

This 3-disc DVD set is the second major release from the WWE based on Ric Flair, as they released a 3-disc set based on Flair just a few years back. With so much more recent content though it is impossible to ignore this new release.

The highlight of the release is the production of the documentary. The DVD goes back to old WWE documentary formats, recapping the entire career of Ric Flair with comments from the man himself, along with family, and peers.

Flair takes his shots during the documentary, going after the likes of Eric Bischoff and others, and comes across extremely honest and up-front. Though there may not be much here wrestling fans don’t already know, the documentary is top-notch.

The only thing difficult with putting together a set about Ric Flair is how to choose which matches to include, as he had so many great ones. The WWE did a great job I feel at picking and choosing matches which will appeal to both old and new fans.

There are matches going back to 1982 with Flair in Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling going up against Jack Brisco, as well as matches with him going up against Sting, Harley Race, Terry Funk, Piper, Steamboat, and others.

They conclude with his big match at WWE WrestleMania XXIV, which ended up being his retirement match.

There wouldn’t be a Ric Flair set without some great extras, and by that I mean promos. Ric Flair was and still is the best performer ever on the mic, and he proves it with some absolutely classic promos here. You get to take a look at all of the great ones, from space mountain, to slick Ric, and others.

The other huge feature which true wrestling fans will enjoy is the Ric Flair Farewell Address from Raw back in March of this year. This features the entire farewell address, along with extras which were not seen on the air. The extra-long address features major appearances from both Vince McMahon, as well as the Undertaker.

In terms of the audio and video quality, WWE Home Video did a solid job to try and make some of the older footage look as good as possible. Some of the more recent stuff looks and sounds top notch.

Any wrestling fan who skips out on this DVD release should feel like they truly missed out, as there is enough content here to make any fan, young or old, smile and have a good time for hours. Ric Flair is still the man, and now he has a DVD set that is worthy of being tied to the Nature Boy.

Audio: 8.0 The audio quality is great, with clear and crisp commentary during the documentary and matches.
