Showtime Entertainment
Released: August 19, 2008
Dexter is back for his second season, as America’s favorite serial killer just can’t seem to get enough. The complete second season has been released on the DVD format from Paramount Home Entertainment, and looks to deliver an impact-full experience that you will not soon forget.
I was a big fan of the first season of Dexter, so going into the second season I had high hopes, and rightfully so.
Needless to say, I was not disappointed as you get a series of episodes here which will take your breath away in moments.
Dexter is played by Michael C. Hall, and opens up the second season with the Ice Truck Killer once again taking center stage.
Dexter is dealing with a variety of problems, as we get to see his sister Deb, played by Jennifer Carpenter, struggle from her encounter with the Ice Truck Killer, among other things.
I’m not ruining a thing, but what I will say is that season two of Dexter is truly top-notch, and well-worth seeing.
The audio and video quality for Dexter The Second Season impressed me very much, especially considering it is usually not a good thing when a show goes from TV to DVD. The video and audio transfers though have been done well, as the video is very clear throughout.
The audio also does a good job of capturing all of the emotion and suspense, and letting you truly get a sense of what is going on.
The episodes are presented in 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen, and are extremely vibrant in color, while the audio is presented in a 5.1 surround mix.
For extras, there really si not all that much. You get a preview of season three, as well as a podcast interview with Michael C. Hall. As stated, not really much here for true Dexter fans unfortunately.
Dexter The Second Season on DVD is a great release from Paramount, as this season of the show is arguably better than the first. If you haven’t seen it yet, prepare to be obsessed!
Episodes: 8.8 Extremely compelling storylines and performances from the cast, top-notch stuff.
Video: 8.5 A crystal clear video transfer, well-done!
Audio: 8.6 The 5.1 audio mix does a good job of truly letting you experience the emotion and all that is going on.
Extras: 6.5 Clearly the most disappointing aspect of the release, not much here for fans.
Final Score: 8.2
