The Sixth Sense
Blu-ray Review
Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment
Released: September 30, 2008
The Sixth Sense became a huge hit once it was released, due to the fact that it absolutely scared the pants off of the majority of those who saw it. If it didn’t scare the pants off of people, it at least made them wonder about things around them. That great film has been brought to the Blu-ray format.
The Sixth Sense stars Haley Joel Osment, who did a great job in this film along with Bruce Willis. The young Haley Joel Osment did a tremendous job to carry this film, as Bruce Willis simply could not do it on his own.
Willis plays Dr. Malcolm Crowe, a child psychiatrist who ends up with a case with young Cole Sear (Osment). He is a very nervous young boy, and says that he can “see dead people.”
This thriller will have you on the edge of your seat from start to finish, and is truly something memorable.
The Sixth Sense marks another great video transfer from Disney onto the Blu-ray format. The video is presented in 1080p, and has a great level of clarity and crispness to it. The black levels are also top notch, much improved over the DVD release.
The audio comes in the form of an uncompressed track, and will really blow you away in how it uses all of the spears to create a very engrossing atmosphere.
There are some great special features included in the release, but nothing really groundbreaking.
You get some trailers, as well as some interviews to start things off with the cast and crew.
The other big addition is the deleted scenes, as well as the alternate ending
For those who like the behind the scenes stuff, you also get some featurettes which focus on various aspects of the production.
The Sixth Sense is a great release on the Blu-ray format, as the film will bring back some freaky memories the first time you sit down to watch it again. The extras may not impress, but the movie is good enough that this is worth checking out on Blu-ray.
Film: 9.0 A very memorable film that is carried well by Osment, a fantastic thriller.
Video: 8.8 Another great transfer from Disney, impressive black levels.
Audio: 8.5 A great atmosphere is set here by the use of the rear channels.
Special Features: 7.0 Nothing too impressive, but some decent stuff.
Final Score: 8.4
