Tinker Bell
Blu-ray Review
Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment
Released: October 28, 2008
Tinker Bell is the first feature film to star the legendary fairy that is the favorite Disney character of many boys and girls around the world. Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment has released Tinker Bell straight-to-video, and needless to say it does not disappoint.
The whole idea behind Tinker Bell is to give the whole backstory into the legendary fairy. You see Tink right from when she was born, and moving onward from there at Pixie Hollow in Neverland.
From there, you get to see her figure out all of her special talents that she has. The film is all about her finding who she is and being happy with what she is. She is joined along with some sidekicks, including two male Tinkers, as well as other fairies along the way.
The best aspect of the film, even beyond the enjoyable story itself, the amazing video quality and CGI work that was done. Tinker Bell looks fabulous to say the least as there are some amazing colors used here which will give you a lot of pop on the Blu-ray format.
Some of the colors provide an amazing visual presentation that will blow you away to be quite honest.
I was extremely impressed with the video quality and the overall CGI work, as the detailed landscapes are meticulously detailed, and the character designs are also put together well with plenty of quality animations and such.
The audio is equally as impressive as you get some great voice work from Mae Whitman as Tinker Bell, as well as Anjelica Huston as Queen Clarion.
The video quality, as expected, is just tremendous as it is presented in 1.78:1 in 1080p. This is a very bright transfer, with beautiful colors, black levels, and a great level of clarity and sharpness.
The audio is presented in a PCM track as well as a Dolby Digital 5.1 mix which does a great job of setting a great atmosphere. I would have liked more ambient noises and such in the background, the musical score from Joel McNeely is tremendous!
There are some nice extras on the Tinker Bell release, and all are presented in HD. The first is a making of featurette known as “Creating Pixie Hollow” which shows how the whole movie was put together.
The next is an interactive feature which has Tinker Bell and Clarion talking about the various areas of the world called “Magical Guide to Pixie Hollow.”
Next up is “Tinker Trainer” which is basically a set-up for kids to try and spot hidden things throughout parts of the film.
There are also other nice additions for kids as well including BD-Live options, “Ever Wonder” as well as the music video “Fly to Your Heart.”
Tinker Bell is something which I have to recommend for the simple fact that the story is a lot of fun, and the visual presentation will absolutely inspire both kids and adults. Tinker Bell definitely packs some Disney magic, and is not one to miss on Blu-ray!
Film: 8.2 The film is very impressive visually, but could have been more in-depth with the story and its development.
Video: 10 The video quality will blow you away, the colors are just inspiring, amazing stuff.
Audio: 9.0 The audio is very well-done, nice spatial sounds, musical score, voice work.
Replay Value: 8.0 The extras were put together well, and the kids will love some of the stuff here.
Final Score: 8.5
