Hannah Montana The Complete First Season
DVD Review
Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment
Released: November 18, 2008
Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment has released the entire first season of Hannah Montana on the DVD format for the first-time.
This four-disc set has all 26 episodes from the first season of the Disney Channel hit sitcom which are from 2006-2007.
Disney has been putting out various DVDs over the past months featuring Hannah Montana episodes, but for the first time decided to release the whole season, much to the glee of fans.
Hannah Montana has always been a very well-done show and is clearly entertaining for the teenage crowd out there, and I can absolutely see why. The show has a lot of entertainment-value, plenty of humor, and presents characters that teens, girls and boys, can clearly connect with.
The first season sets everything up and showcases 14-year old Miley Cyrus in the role of Hannah Montana for the first time. Her father, Billy Ray Cyrus also does a nice job in his role as the father Robbie Stewart. Hannah Montana for those who do not know is Miley Stewart in the show.
The first season is something fans cannot miss, especially if they got into the whole Hannah Montana scene a bit late, it highly-entertaining throughout.
The video quality for the release is pretty typical to be honest, and is presented in 1.33:1 full-screen. For a cable show that was clearly not done to impress anyone visually, it looks quite good on the DVD format. It is not as clean or sharp as other high-profile shows, but the kids won’t care.
The audio is presented in a Dolby Digital English 2.0 track and does a nice job of presenting the dialog and such in a clear and crisp manner. Nothing over-the-top though.
Unfortunately, Disney did not really go over the top with the extras like they usually do on this set. You do get a few cool little additions though including some pop-up trivia for some of the episodes, as well as a featurette called Back Home Again with Miley, and Disney Channel Games 2008, Episode 1.
Unfortunately, you do not get anything in regards to episode commentaries or behind-the-scenes stuff.
It is great to finally see Disney put out the first season of Hannah Montana in its entirety on the DVD format and is a release which teens are surely going to enjoy. Some more extras could have helped the overall package though.
Episodes: 8.5 This is the season that started the Hannah Montana craze, and it is highly-entertaining.
Video: 7.5 An average video transfer, pretty clear throughout.
Audio: 8.0 Crisp and clear audio, as expected but nothing over-the-top.
Extras: 6.0 The lack of extras is a disappointment considering the great Disney track-record.
Final Score: 8.0
