Star Trek The Original Motion Picture Collection
Blu-ray Review
Paramount Home Entertainment
Released: May 12, 2009
Paramount Home Entertainment has put out a release that Star Trek fans have been dreaming about with the Star Trek Original Motion Picture Collection on Blu-ray.
This is an unbelievable release to say the least that is sure to please any Star Trek fan out there.
Each of the motion pictures have been restored beautifully, with high-quality work being done on the end of Paramount to really make these look top-notch.
The movies included in this collection are the following, just in case you were wondering.
1. Star Trek The Motion Picture
2. Star Trek The Wrath of Khan
3. Star Trek The Search for Spock
4. Star Trek The Voyage Home
5. Star Trek The Final Frontier
6. Star Trek The Undiscovered Country
The new high-definition presentations of these films are a huge upgrade over the DVD releases in the past. There is some grain to be found, but overall there was great work done on each of these. Overall, each of the six movies look phenomenal on the Blu-ray format.
On top of that, for the audio nuts out there, we are presented with a Dolby TrueHD 7.1 lossless mix. The audio tracks will really depend on the movie, with some of them having better tracks than others since they use more of the rear channels and such. Overall though, each have been highly-improved over what we have been given in the past.
Considering the age of the source material here, you really cannot ask for much more with this Blu-ray release.
Beyond the high-def treatment in regards to the audio and video, we are also presented with hours of all-new special features, as well as tons of previously released content.
Virtually all of the extras from past DVD releases have been carried over here, along with TONS of new content exclusive to the Blu-ray format.
Focusing more on the Blu-ray exclusive stuff, you will first notice that brand new commentary tracks have been added for each film,w ith each of them being highly-entertaining.
Next up is a new feature known as Library Computer, which is basically an interactive playback mode. What this allows is for you to find out a great deal of background information and other little trivia facts to go along with the movies.
On top of that, there has also been BD-Live content added in, as well as a sit-down called Star Trek The Captains’ Summit, which will be an absolute joy for any fan to check out.
Paramount has gone above and beyond what was necessary to please Star Trek fans with this release, as this is an absolute must-buy to anyone who ever loved the films from this historic franchise!
Films: 9.0 Some of the six films are better than others, but as a set they equal out to a classic collection.
Video: 10 Could not have asked for more considering the age of the source material.
Audio: 9.5 The audio is top-notch in 5 out of the 6 films, the original does not sound quite so special.
Extras: 10 Tons of Blu-ray exclusive content, plus hours of previously released stuff.
Final Score: 9.7
