Blu-ray Review
Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment
Released: May 19, 2009

A Bug’s Life is long overdue in my opinion to receive a release on the Blu-ray format, but the wait has been well-worth it thanks to what Disney has done with this one!

Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment has finally released A Bug’s Life on the Blu-ray format.

This film has been loved by many and is seen as one of the better Disney animated films in the past decade.

The film stars worker ant Flik (Dave Foley), who is basically an inventor who tries to help out his ant friends in anyw ay that they can.

Flik is not perfect though, as he causes problems, and is looked down upon by many who want him to just follow the rules.

The ants are made up of some great characters who are all very funny and each have their own personality.

A Bug’s Life is a strong Pixar film, and is right up there in my opinion with Toy Story and other Disney animated greats, plenty of humor and a quality story.

The video quality for this release is top-notch, as it is presented in 2.35:1 aspect ratio in full 1080p.  Simply said, the film looks unbelievable on Blu-ray.

The audio is equally as impressive as Disney has done it again with a flawless audio mix, presented in DTS-HD Master Audio 6.1.  This audio mix utilizes the front and rear channels perfectly to engross you in everything, fantastic.

As for the extras, there are a few new Blu-ray exclusive bonus features here, starting out with the included Disney digital copy, as well as some other additions.

The first is Filmmakers’ Round Table, which has the makers of the hit movie talk about the creation of the film, going into great detail.  This is very entertaining for Disney fans.

Next up is a new animated feature which shows A Bug’s Life before it became the movie that we know it as today.

From here, we are presented with some other extras, some of which we have seen in the past before.  Things start with the animated short film Geri’s Game, which won an Academy Award.

There is also a behind the scenes look at the movie, an audio commentary with the director, as well as some more fun stuff for the younger crowd.

Immediately coming to mind are the outtakes, as well as the Disney Silly Symphony with the Grashopper and the Ants, very fun.

A Bug’s Life is a terrific addition to your Blu-ray collection as the movie is a lot of fun, and the entire Blu-ray package is a home run, highly-recommended!

Film: 9.2 The animated film is up there as one of my all-time favorites, a high-quality Disney release.

Video: 10 The video transfer is flawless, amazing.

Audio: 10
Perfection.

Extras: 8.5 Some nice new Blu-ray exclusives, a great package.

Final Score: 9.4
