Friday the 13th Part V A New Beginning
DVD Review
Paramount Home Entertainment
Release: June 23, 2009
Paramount Home Entertainment has launched 3 more Friday the 13th flicks in Deluxe Edition DVD releases, including Friday the 13th Part V A New Beginning.
Friday the 13th Part V brings Jason back from the dead yet again, this time carrying out murders at a halfway house where Tommy Jarvis lives.
Tommy lives at Camp Pinehurst, where he is haunted by the past murders from Crystal Lake.
The body count here is quite high, up and above the number of 13, and the murders are very creative and gory, both elements which will please horror fans.
The main story here though is almost non-existent as expected, just an average, albeit entertaining horror film.
Friday the 13th Part V has received some decent extras here in this deluxe edition release, including part 5 of Lost Tales from Camp Blood.
You are also presented with a commentary by director Danny Steinmann, as well as part 2 of the Crystal Lake Massacre.
A making-of featurette and the theatrical trailer are also included.
Friday the 13th Part V is a very entertaining horror film which will please fans of the series, just don’t expect anything too original in this DVD release.
Film: 7.5 The film is certainly entertaining, just a tad unoriginal.
Video: 8.0 The video transfer is very well-done, with good black levels throughout and nice detail in the gory scenes.
Audio: 7.5 Audio mix gets the job done.
Extras: 7.5 Extras are unique and entertaining, fans will enjoy them.
Final Score: 7.9
