The ABC Family series “The Secret Life of the American Teenager” came onto the season as the family that didn’t try to sugarcoat the life of a pregnant teenager. It took us through the ramifications of being pregnant teen along with the responsibilities and difficult choices that have to be made.

The series primary focus is on teenager Amy Jeurgens who is supposed to be the typical door next door. She’s in the school band and part of a dysfunctional family. Well, this one time at band camp, Amy ends up meeting Ricky Underwood and making the one time mistake. Needless to say, she ends up pregnant and relies on her friends and eventually her parents to deal with her pregnancy at such a young age. Through season two (or second half of season one) she continues to deal with her pregnancy and falling in love with her boyfriend, Ben.

I’ll admit, I’m not a fan at all and it doesn’t relate to me what so ever. I personally can’t stand the show but it seems to be a hit with young teenagers and gives parents a good time to discuss teen pregnancy and sex.

The video comes to DVD in a 1.78:1 aspect ratio, which is how it is broadcasted on ABC Family HD and enhanced for widescreens. It’s not the best I’ve seen, but certainly not the worst.

The sound comes in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound that pretty much just delivers clear and fairly decent audio

The extras contain a music video, interview with the cast about their characters, and then interviews with your favorite character. All in all, the extras aren’t worth it.
