Galaxy Quest
Blu-ray Review
Paramount Home Entertainment
Released: October 2009
Paramount has released Galaxy Quest for the first time on the Blu-ray format, and fans will surely be pleased.
Galaxy Quest was a film that was loved by many, starring Tim Allen, Alan Rickman, and Sigourney Weaver.
This marks the 10th Anniversary Deluxe Edition release of the film, which is a comedy that never rests, constantly pushing forward with a fast-pace.
Galaxy Quest is basically a spoof on the whole Star Trek universe, as well as sci-fi movies in general, and it succeeds in many ways making it well-worth checking out.
The audio and video quality for this Blu-ray release is quite strong, definitely a big improvement over what we have seen in past DVD releases. The audio is presented in Dolby TrueHD while the video is presented in full 1080p.
The video and audio transfers are impressive but are not demo-quality. Audio could have been more engrossing in parts, and colors and black levels are very good, but not perfect.
These extras start out with Historical Documents The Story of Galaxy Quest, which looks back at the film, its success, and how it was all put together.
There are also extras looking at the special effects, the creation of the creatures, the cast, and more.
There are also deleted scenes, the theatrical trailer, as well as other features making for a fantastic set overall. The Sigourney Weaver rap is also interesting, funny stuff.
Galaxy Quest on Blu-ray is a quality release for sure and one which fans should definitely check out.
