Blu-ray Review
Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment
Released: October 2009

Pixar has put out some of the most memorable animated pictures in recent memory, including Finding Nemo, Monsters, Inc. and others. They are back at it again with Disney with the release of Up in a value-packed 4-disc Blu-ray release.

This is a stacked release that not only features the Blu-ray version of the film with a second disc for extras, but also a disc with a digital copy of the film, as well as a fourth disc with the DVD version of the film and all of its extras.

Up is a lot of fun to watch, as it is highly-entertaining from start to finish, and will really stretch your imagination. If you think you got an idea as to what the movie would be about from the trailer, think again. This movie has a tremendous story behind it that follows an old man, also known as the little mail man, a young adventurous boy, as well as an extremely tall bird named Kevin.

The film takes you on an adventure of a lifetime as the old man is about to lose his house but ends up coming up with an invention to actually fly away with the house, hooking it up to tons of helium-filled balloons. What he does not know though is that the young boy who came to his door not too long ago is inside the house with him.

This is a great adventure that both kids and adults will have a lot of fun watching, and anyone who enjoyed past movies such as Nemo and Monsters, Inc. will truly love this heart-warming feature.

The video quality on this Blu-ray release is top-notch, as would be expected from the combination of Disney and Pixar. These two together make some films that will blow you away in terms of just how inventive they can get. The first time you see the house take off on Blu-ray with the balloons, and you see the detail, the colors, etc. you will know you are watching something that can only come across this crystal clear in 1080p Blu-ray.

The same can be said for the audio, which is presented in a DTS-HD 5.1 track that uses both the front and rear channels to engross you in everything going on. Pixar did a great job with this picture of putting together a mix that kept all of the action suspenseful and exciting, while allowing the dialogue to still take ceter stage when necessary, near-perfection.

The value here is the fact that the release comes with the Blu-ray version, the DVD version, and a digital copy of the film all packed in together. Disney did not stop there though, as there are plenty of other extras as well.

The DVD featured here comes with all of the extras from the DVD release, while the Blu-ray version has plenty of exclusive extras in its own right. This starts off with an interactive geography game that kids will have a lot of un with.

On top of that, there are also documentaries and back-story to the film that both the young and the old viewers will have enjoyment out of. Some of the other extras include making-of featurettes, alternate scenes, and short films including a new one following the dog Dug.

Up is an absolute blast of a movie as it tells a great touching story, and is full of fun and laughter. With the value of this release, it is well-worth picking up for any Disney fan out there.

Movie: 9.2 Extremely touching film that is both hilarious and heart-warming at the same time.

Video: 10

Audio: 9.5

Extras: 9.2 Tons of value here with the Blu-ray, DVD, and digital versions all included, plus the extras.

Final Score: 9.5
