They stated that the south pole of the moon is filled with craters, hills, etc.  NASA is setting their sites on the south pole of the Moon for their next landing of either a human or robotic mission.

The south pole region of the Moon is of great interest to NASA as they have been looking at it as a possible future landing site for a human or robotic lunar mission.

NASA was able to map out the south pole of the Moon with high-resolution images to get a better idea of how it is actually formed.

They used an Earth-based radar system located in the Mojave Desert in California.

NASA stated that the south pole region has a mountainous peak which stands at 3.8 miles high. This is almost as high as the tallest mountain in North America.

They also stated that some of the craters are 2.5 miles deep.

The location of greatest interest for NASA was the Shackleton Crater rim area.

NASA stated that in continues to be a very high area of interest for future human landings.

They stated that they want to be able to use the resources of the planet to reduce the amount of re-supply from Earth. This would help them with future human missions to Mars and back to the Moon.

  • What is south and what is north on the moon?
    What is it reference to?
Since we are going back to the moon again, lets put our ownership stake on it this time..if the Russians can claim the North pole, the moon ought to be ours…
