Massive Antarctic Ice Shelf Collapses, Global Warming To Blame

Boston (dbTechno) - A massive ice shelf has collapsed in Antarctica. The British Antarctic Survey stated on Tuesday that global warming is to blame. They also warned that another massive ice shelf is “hanging by a thread” and could fall very soon.

The British Antarctic Survey was made aware of the situation by Prof. Ted Scambos of the National Snow and Ice Data Center at the University of Colorado at Boulder.

According to reports, 220 square miles of ice has fallen.

It is believed that the massive ice shelf that now hangs is over 5,000 square miles.

Scambos stated it is about the size of the state of Connecticut to put it into perspective.

It is believed that global warming is to blame for the melting ice. The only positive thing is that the Antarctic summer is now coming to an end, meaning that the melting may be able to take a break.

Over the years, many ice shelves have collapsed, some of them as big as states.

The western Antarctic peninsula, according to scientists, continues to see steady temperature increases of about 1 degree Fahrenheit each decade.
