T. Rex Confirmed As Close Relative To Modern Birds
April 25, 2008
Boston (dbTechno) - According to the latest research, the Tyrannosaurus rex (T. Rex) has a link to modern birds. Scientists have found by analyzing protein obtained from the tissue of a T. rex that birds are the closest relatives to dinosaurs.
They analyzed bits of protein obtained from a T. rex fossil’s tissue.
They found that birds are actually the closest relatives to dinosaurs.
The lead author of the report, Dr. Chris Organ from Harvard University put out a statement saying that they have made a clear evolutionary relationship between dinosaurs and birds.
They are nearly certain that there is a clear link between the T. rex and the evolution to modern birds.
The protein they looked over was from a tissue found in the bones of a 68-million year old T. rex found in 2003.
Researchers compared the proteins with other types beyond birds, including reptiles.
In the end though, it seems that modern birds, including chickens, ostriches, and others are the closest relatives to dinosaurs.
