They have thawed out the squid from a huge ice block and now intend to study it extensively.

The squid weighs in, as stated, around 1,000 pounds and is about the length of a big bus.

The creature is being completely thawed at the Musuem of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa.

They will study the corpse of the squid before putting it on display in a tank of propylene glycol preservative.

They will focus on various parts of the body of the squid. They want to focus in on the eyes of the giant squid, tissues, the sex, etc.

Researchers are also going to be taking a look at the contents of the stomach, to try and see exactly what type of diet the squid had.

The squid was removed from the freezer on Monday after scientists tried to figure out the best way to thaw the creature without damaging it.
