The expectation is that there will be between 12 and 16 named storms this season which form in the Atlantic.

Out of these 12 to 16 names storms, it is believed that anywhere from 6 to 9 of them will be strong enough to be considered hurricanes.

A normal hurricane season is to have around 11 named storms which are either tropical storms or hurricanes.

As of right now, forecasters have stated that there is a 65% chance that there will be an above-normal season for hurricanes.

There is a 25% chance there will be a normal season, and a 10% chance for a below-normal season.

The active hurricane season is likely due to the trends in recent years in teh Atlantic, as well as La Nina, which could cause the activity to increase.
