Washington (dbTechno) – According to a new study, Stonehenge, which is southwest of London, was actually a royal family’s burial site.
The ancient mystery of Stonehenge has been solved as radiocarbon dating has found that the cremated bones excavated from Stonehenge were a part of a royal burial site.
The cremated bones found at the 5,000 year-old site state that burials began at least 500 years before the first massive stones were put up.
It is believed this could have been the country’s first royal dynasty.
The pattern of the graves as well as the small number of graves makes them believe it was a single royal family.
This is the first true evidence that there were kings in southern England during the early periods.
The leader of the research, archaeologist Mike Parker Pearson of the University of Sheffield explained that the stones had to be dragged for 150 miles, showing that they were a very powerful family.
The data was presented at a teleconference organized by the National Geographic Society, and will publish the findings in the Juen issue of National Geographic.
