EPA Uses Veto To Reject Mississippi Delta Project
September 3, 2008
Boston (dbTechno) - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has shown their strength, issuing a veto of the Mississippi delta project.
The EPA announced that they have decided to put a stop to the construction.
The planned construction was known as the Yazoo pumps project, and was originally authorized back in 1941.
The idea behind it was to cut down on flooding in the state of Mississippi.
The flooding was being caused by the clash of the Yazoo and Mississippi rivers
.
The project had an annual operation cost of $2 million, with the whole project costing $220 million.
The EPA stated though that the project must stop, on the grounds of the Clean Water Act.
They stated that the project, if it continued, would have a huge environmental impact.
