Massive 20-Mile Ice Shelf Breaks Off In Arctic Ocean
September 4, 2008
Washington (dbTechno) - Just Wednesday, it was confirmed that an ice shelf that was nearly 20-square-miles broke off in the northern Arctic.
Canada’s northern Arctic has been warming for years now, and the full effects of the warming are beginning to be seen.
Scientists reported on Wednesday that the nearly 20-square-mile ice shelf has broken off, and is drifting in the Arctic Ocean.
The ice-shelf broke off in early August, and has been floating away ever since in the ocean.
Scientists are using this as a firm example as to the rapid changes that are taking place in the Arctic as a result of global warming.
