Washington (dbTechno) – According to a new study published in the New England Journal of Medicine, daylight saving time has a major impact on heart attack rates around the world.
Researchers have found that the risk of heart attacks increases when the clocks spring ahead, or fall back for daylight saving time.
The study was led by Imre Janszky of the Karolinska Institute and Rickard Ljung of the National Board of Health and Welfare in Stockhold.
Researchers believe that the increased risk of heart attack during the time switches is likely due to the sleep that is lost by many.
Sleep deprivation is known to be bad for the heart, and this could cause higher blood pressure, and heart attacks overall.
The study revealed that people over the age of 65 would be hit the most in regards to daylight saving time impacting theihr risk of heart attack.
Every spring the clocks go forward, and every fall they go backward. All of this is tied directly to the risk of heart attack.
