Wolf Hunters Load Guns, Await Judge Ruling

A judge will rule today whether or not to keep a ban in place on shooting wolves in Idaho and Montana
Boston (DbTechNo) – A judge will rule today whether or not to keep a ban in place on shooting wolves in Idaho and Montana.

Currently the wolves are protected under a federal Endangered Species Act which means they can not legally be shot by hunters.

Wolves were reintroduced to the 2 states back in the mid 1990′s, and now more than 1600 call the 2 states home.

There are more than 200 wolves’ lives at steak here, and environmental groups are pressing the court to not lift the restriction on hunters when it comes to shooting them.

“We’re very concerned about intentional and unnecessary wolf killing that will reduce the population level,” said Doug Honnold, with Earthjustice in Bozeman, Montana.

“We’re ready,” said Jim Unsworth, Idaho Fish and Game’s deputy director. “It’s been an incredible amount of work, getting tags ready, training people. Just that part would be disappointing, if that was all in vain.”

Traditionally, hunters shoot to kill wolves, not to eventually eat them, but to sell their fur which is quite valuable.

  • I bet if one of those tree huggers had their child or a family member attacked by a wolf because they get overpopulated and move out of the forest for more food they would change their tune real quick.

  • Why not lift the ban on killing hunters and have the wolfs shoot them instead?

  • The judge presiding over this case stopped the hunt last year because of several issues with the management plans. He even stated if those things had been in place he would have let the hunt continue last year. Now both Idaho and Montana have met those requirements. Unless the man is a complete hypocrite this wolf season will open.
