Massive Iceberg Breaks Away From Antarctic glacier
Boston (DbTechNo) – A giant iceberg has broken off from an Antarctic glacier and is threatening marine life in the region.

According to scientists, the iceberg, the size of Luxembourg broke off from the glacier after being run into by another iceberg.

They state that both icebergs weigh an estimated 780 billion tonnes and 635 billion tonnes respectively.

This new iceberg is truly enormous, measuring an estimated 965 square miles big.

The scientists state that colonies of emperor penguins who live in the region could be negatively affected by the mamoth collision and subsequent icebirg split.

They state that oxygen levels in the ocean could be diminished, which would affect not only the penguins but all marine life.

“It gave it a pretty big nudge,” stated Australian Antarctic division glaciologist Neal Young. “They are now floating right next to each other.”

“There may be regions of the world’s oceans that lose oxygen, and then of course most of the life there will die,” said Mario Hoppema, chemical oceanographer at the Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research in Germany.
