William Shatner, who portrayed the role of Captain Kirk in the popular science fiction series “Star Trek”, was stuck on the wrong side of the country when fellow cast member, Leonard “Mr. Spock” Nimoy, passed away. Shatner tweeted to his fans on Saturday, the day after Nimoy’s death at the age of 83 at his home in Bel Air, that he was in Florida committed to participating in a charity event and felt very upset that he would not be able to make it back for Nimoy’s memorial service, which was scheduled for Sunday, March 1.
I do want to thank everyone for coming here and sharing their memories and celebrating the life of #LeonardNimoy LLAP! MBB

Many of Shatner’s fans criticized the actor, calling him Captain Jerk, for not making special arrangements to get back to Los Angeles quickly in order to attend the funeral of one of his best friends, in light of the fact that Shatner is the celebrity spokesman for Priceline.com, a service which supposedly makes booking travel arrangements that much easier. Members of the news media saw that Shatner arrived back in Los Angeles on Sunday morning at 11:30 a.m. He refused to comment about any plans to go directly to Nimoy’s funeral. Shatner’s daughters indicated they would represent the family at the service.
