Boston (dbtechno) - The International Space Station and NASA community were in mourning this last Sunday as they marked the death of a member of their extended family. NASA Scientist Daniel Tani is currently in orbit around the earth and is mourning the loss of his mother, Rose.

Rose Tani passed away recently. Mrs. Tani was proud that her son was a member of NASA and an International Space Station Scientist and Astronaut. She lost her life tragically in a car accident December 19th.

Astronaut Daniel Tani’s mother was laid to rest in Chicago Sunday, with over six hundred people in attendance at her funeral. Funeral Services to mark her passing were held at the First Church of Lombard in Chicago, Illinois.

Ninety-year-old Rose Tani was a survivor. She survived spending part of World War II in an internment camp, and went on to raise five strong, healthy children. One of her children grew up to be NASA Astronaut Daniel.

Her son was serving with distinction on the International Space Station and could not attend his mother’s funeral, but was able to videotape a message, which was played at the funeral.

“Those people who know her know that mere words can not describe how warm she was, or her generosity, her vitality,” said Dani. “We all will miss her very dearly, she is my hero, Mom I love you very much,” said Mr. Dani in his message.

“Daniel Tani has been inspired by his mother his whole life, her loss is felt by us all,” said Reverend Rob Hatfield. Reverend Hatfield is a longtime family friend and he serves as the Senior Minister at their church.
“Many people came because of who Rose Tani was in life, she was respected and loved,” said Kathy Bafundo. Mrs. Bafundo is a friend of the family and attended church with Mrs. Tani at the First Church of Lombard in Chicago.
