Navy Shoots Down Spy Satellite With Direct Hit

Boston (dbTechno) - The U.S. Navy fired a missile towards a U.S. spy satellite which was disabled, and en route to crashing on Earth. The missile was a direct hit and managed to fully destroy the spy satellite. The military stated that the debris is now falling into the ocean.

The U.S. Navy fired the missile off of a ship near Hawaii on Wednesday.  It was their first attempt at destroying the satellite, and they scored a direct hit.  The  satellite was flying at a reported speed of 22,000 mph, making it an amazing thing that they hit it on the first shot.

Marine General James Cartwright, vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff stated that there is a “high degree of confidence” that the missile hit the fuel tank of the spy satellite, which was full of fuel and was feared to cause great damage if it hit Earth.

He spoke during a press conference at the Pentagon on Thursday.

The fuel tank was full of toxic hydrazine fuel which would have been a clear health hazard if it had fallen.

Cartwright stated at the press conference that debris from the destroyed satellite will begin to enter the atmosphere of Earth on Thursday and continue to do so for the next 48 hours or so.

The Pentagon stated that the debris will be small and will likely fall into the Atlantic and Pacific oceans.

They were able to confirm a direct hit on the satellite as they detected that the satellite was now in the form of a ball of fire.

There is still no word if any debris could fall and hit Earth, as the potential is there.
