Japan Sends High-Speed Internet Satellite To Space
February 23, 2008
Tokyo (dbTechno) - The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency has launched a rocket into space on Saturday. The rocket is carrying a brand new high-speed internet communications satellite called the WINDS satellite, for Japan. The high-speed internet satellite can transfer an incredible amount of data at lightning speeds and will cover the entire Asia-Pacific region.
The speed of the internet satellite is immense as it can transmit data at 1.2 GB per second.
The satellite was launched by a H-2A rocket on Saturday afternoon from Japan’s Tanegashima Space Center.
The original launch date was February 15, but it had to be postponed due to problems with a gas jet thruster.
The idea behind the high-speed internet satellilte is that it will be able to test out various areas on the ground.
The testing will allow Japan to try and get an idea in regards to wireless high-capacity and high-speed data communications.
Some of the areas on the ground are very difficult to build on which is why these tests from space are necessary.
The hope is that eventually this new technology will bring super high-speed internet to homes and businesses around the world.
The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency stated “Among other uses, this will make possible great advances in telemedicine, which will bring high-quality medical treatment to remote areas, and in distant education, connecting students and teachers separates by great distances.”
