Sen. Allard Urges U.S. Military Progression In Space
April 9, 2008
Orlando (dbTechno) - U.S. Senator Wayne Allard, a Republican from Colorado, spoke at the 24th Annual National Space Symposium about the need for the progression of the U.S. Space Program, including a space defense system.
He stated that it is important to add additional funding to the U.S. Space Program so that it has the ability to grow to its full potential.
He stated that if the U.S. Space Program is not properly funded, it may cause the U.S. to fall behind other countries. Once this happens, he stated, the U.S. will be far more vulnerable.
The main push from Sen. Allard had to so with a potential space defense system, and the need for one.
“In a message to the world,” he stated, “China proved they have the capability to not only compete in space, but illustrated their potential to be a direct threat to the United States as well.” He was referring to China being able to shoot down a weather satellite in space.
He stated that the U.S. needs to provide the proper funding to build a layer of missile-defense weapons in space to stop future threats.
“Our ability to control space militarily is absolutely critical to national security.”
According to the 2008 Space Report revealed, the industry as a whole grew by 11% last year alone.
