The back pains were caused by her rough botched landing aboard the Soyuz capsule during her return from the International Space Station.

Yi So-Yeon has had to go through and MRI as well as other tests. They are trying to pinpoint exactly where she got hurt and why her back is bothering her so much.

She returned to Earth on April 19 along with two fellow astronauts. The Russian-designed Soyuz capsule missed its landing though by hundreds of feet. Many reported that it was an extremely dangerous landing.

She was put through a severe amount of gravitational forces due to the dangerous landing, far more than astronauts usually have to endure when taking off or landing. The brunt of the hit was also delivered more to Yi So-Yeon as the capsule hit the groun near her seat.

The 29-year old made history becoming South Korea’s first astornaut. She will continue to undergo testing and treatment at an air force hospital.
