NASA, Discovery Channel Release Footage Of Historic Missions In HD
May 8, 2008
Boston (dbTechno) - NASA and the Discovery Channel have worked hard and on Tuesday, released restored film footage of never-before-seen shots from the Gemini, Mercury, and Apollo missions. The footage has been restored to full high-definition, with the content being decades old. The footage will be used by Discovery Channel for its upcoming documentary, “When We Left Earth: The NASA Missions,” set for June 2008.
Some of the pictures and footage fully restored to HD include the very first space walk carried out by astronaut Ed White.
NASA is hopeful that by transferring all of their old footage to HD, generations of people will be able to relive the magic and history of NASA.
During the restoration process, a total of over 50 years of footage was converted to full HD. In total, over one-hundred hours of classic NASA footage from the 1960s and 1970s alone has been upgraded to HD.
The film which was used to create the restored footage is to be given back to NASA and stored at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas.
