June 11, 2008
Orlando (dbTechno) - NASA has launched their newest space telescope on Wednesday, the Gamma-ray Large Area Telescope, also known as GLAST.
The new telescope blasted off on top of a Delta 2 rocket from the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida.
The launch took place at 12:05 p.m. EDT on Wednesday.
The five-ton GLAST is now headed for orbit around 350 miles above the Earth.
GLAST includes two main telescopes which have been built to basically scan the sky for any gamma-ray light.
The hope is that it will give us a look into the unexplored universe.
