Mars Has Ice, Mineral Rich Soil, So Could Humans Live There?

NASA scientists have announced just days apart that the Phoenix Mars Lander has found both ice, and soil that can support life on the red planet. So the question comes up, could humans actually live there and thrive?

There have been a few absolutely amazing discoveries over the course of the past few weeks. Just last week, ice was discovered on the northern pole of Mars by the Phoenix Mars Lander.

This is an incredible find as it shows that there is water on the planet, something necessary for human survival.

The water that was found was right at the surface as well, as it was not way deep, another important factor.

On top of that, just yesterday NASA scientists announced that their initial analysis of the soil found on Mars has enough minerals to support life.

This discovery is arguably the most important, as it shows that everything in the soil is there to support life. The scientists compared the soil to what you would find in your backyard.

The NASA scientists have stated that all of their findings thus far are preliminary. Many are hopeful though that further analysis could actually reveal that there was once life on Mars, though that has yet to be determined.

The soil that was analyzed is very alkaline, and has a pH level of around 8. In the soil, minerals they found include potassium, chloride, sodium, and magnesium.

President George W. Bush has already called on NASA and set a goal to get humans back on the moon by the year 2020.

The ultimate goal beyond the moon though is a manned-mission to Mars.

With these latest findings, it is no longer laughable to think that someday, an actual community could be built on the red planet.
