Study Says Ancient Mars Was Wet, Filled With Lakes, Rivers
July 17, 2008
Washington (dbTechno) - According to a new study, ancient Mars was more than a little wet, as it was apparently filled with lakes, rivers, as well as other wet environments to possibly support life.
NASA put out a news released on Wednesday of the study, which was published in the journal Nature.
The study, according to NASA, shows that ancient Mars held clay minerals, which could only form with water.
The data from the study, which comes from U.S. space program missions to Mars, shows that Mars had widespread and long-lasting water.
According to researchers, the minerals recorded having contact with water around 4.6 billion to 3.8 billion years ago.
