NASA Admits That Arctic Sea Ice Is Near A Record Low
September 17, 2008
Washington (dbTechno) - NASA has come out and confirmed that the frozen Arctic sea ice is near a record low.
A few weeks ago, the NASA supported National Snow and Ice Data Center came out and reported that the arctic sea ice was at its second lowest level in recorded history.
They stated that the arctic sea ice dropped to 1.74 million square miles.
This is just above the lowest point in recorded history, which was taken back in 2007.
The arctic sea ice coverage in 2008 was only 9.4% higher than that in 2007.
NASA and other experts have made it clear that this represents a major decline in the Arctic sea ice, and is something that needs a great deal of attention long-term.
NASA issued a preliminary report on Tuesday which confirmed their findings.
The ice used to cover 60% of the Arctic, but according to NASA, now covers less than 30%.
