NASA MESSENGER Spacecraft Flies Past Mercury Again
October 6, 2008
Boston (dbTechno) - The NASA MESSENGER spacecraft made its second flyby past Mercury on Monday morning, getting closer to the planet than ever before.
The MESSENGER spacecraft made its first flyby past Mercury back on January 14th, covering around 20% of the surface of the planet.
This new flyby though was set to cover another 30% of the planet’s surface, focusing on its opposite side.
NASA now awaits the new images of Mercury, as they have never seen this part of the planet before.
The MESSENGER is the first spacecraft to get this close to Mercury since 1975.
By the year 2011, the MESSENGER spacecraft will settle into orbit around Mercury.
It should be interesting to say the least what NASA finds from this latest information.
