Upgrade To ISS Allows Astronauts To Turn Urine Into Water
November 13, 2008
Boston (dbTechno) - The International Space Station is set to get some major upgrades once the 15-day mission is kicked off by the crew of the NASA space shuttle Endeavour. One of those upgrades will allow astronauts to turn urine into drinking water.
The NASA Endeavour crew, made up of 7 astronauts, are set to launch from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida this coming Friday.
They will take part in a 15-day mission to the International Space Station to carry out a variety of upgrades.
They will be installing many new things on the International Space Station, such as new bedrooms, a new kitchen, new bathroom, etc.
One cool thing they are adding though is a new water purification system.
This is going to allow them to recycle urine and turn it into drinking water.
Once the mission is complete, the International Space Station is going to be able to house 6 astronauts rather than 3 as it can do now.

Finally!!! I suggest NASA copy more technologies from great Kevin Costner movies like Water World.
Eww! I guess that means they will have to filter out the turds. Perhaps they can recycle those too and use them to make more food. I hope for the sake of the occupants that the water that results from this process will not taste like the asparagus they ate earlier that day.
How does the new water filtration system work? What were they doing with the urine before?
