Kepler Telescope Locates Five New Planets

January 5, 2010

It is being reported that astronomers using the Kepler telescope have located 5 new planets
Boston (DbTechNo) - It is being reported that astronomers using the Kepler telescope have located 5 new planets.

Kepler was launched into space last year, and has the mission of locating planets close to earth.

The telescope is focused on more than 156,000 stars located within a 3,000 light-year radius of planet earth.

The newly discovered planets are all located not far from earth, and appear to orbit very close to their stars.

The planets discovered, orbit their stars every 4 days, and appear to be very, very hot.

“These planets orbit quite close to their stars, so they’re quite hot,” said Kepler science team leader William Borucki of NASA’s Ames Research Center in Moffett Field, California.

This is great news for the crew in charge of manning the telescope, who hope to find more and more planets throughout the life of the Kepler mission.
