Fans Reach Out to Help Sarah Burke’s Grieving Family

Sarah Burke, 29, the Canadian freestyle skier who lost her life after a freak accident occurred during training on the half pipe, had quite loyal fans. Burke’s family was faced with over $200,000 worth of medical bills after the beloved skier was taken off of life support after sustaining irreversible brain injuries.

The charismatic athlete was responsible for getting her sport into the next Winter Olympics. Her husband, Rory Bushfield, also an extreme sport participant, faced huge medical bills from the Utah hospital where Sarah was receiving treatment.

Because she was a Canadian citizen, her health insurance did not cover much of the expense since she was treated abroad. In addition, her insurance was limited due to the nature of her career and its estimated dangers.

However, after a web site went live with the news of the family debt, donations came flooding in from all over the globe. More than enough was donated to cover her expenses leaving her family to grieve in peace.

A statement from the family thanked the Sarah’s fans and everyone around the world for their thoughts and concern.
