Bolt Beaten in Hometown Track Meet

The biggest star in track and field athletics, Jamaica’s Usuain Bolt could only manage a third placed finish in his first meet of the 2013 season.

Bolt is slowly building his preparations for the Aworld Athletics Championships, which take place in Moscow, Russia in August; the sprinter, who had won three gold medals at the last two Olympics in beijing and London began his season with the 400 meters at Kingston, Jamaica’s Camperdown Classic.

The 400 meters event began with Bolt winning his heat in 46.71 seconds, a time beaten by Yohan Blake and Warren Weir; both men are teammates of Bolt and took the top two places in the event as places were awarded by time recorded in the heats. Bolt has often begun his season with 400 meters events in a bid to increase his fitness; his preparations for the World Championships continue with an appearance at the NBA All-Star Game on February 15th.
