With the Tampa Bay Lightning team in second to last place in the Eastern Conference, team management has fired Coach Guy Boucher.
Coaching assistants Dan Lacroix and Martin Raymond have been called on to fill in immediately for the next game against Winnipeg.
Although Lightning management expressed the belief that Boucher did everything he could over the past three years to create a championship team, they believed that making an immediate change in direction is the only thing that will pull Tampa Bay out of the doldrums they have been stuck in, missing yet another chance this year to attend the playoffs.
Boucher, who was hired in the summer of 2010 as the Lightning’s seventh coach, helped the team reach conference finals during his inaugural year, but they have since sunk to a 13-17-1 record for this season. Boucher was hockey’s youngest coach, with only a short 12 months experience coaching professionally when he accepted the Tampa Bay job.
